REQUEST FOR EMPLOYEE RECORDS The PRRT&HS Archives in Lewistown does not have personnel records of the Pennsylvania Railroad. There are some other sources which might provide assistance in genealogical investigations. See webpage Railroad Retirement Board for records of individuals who worked in the railroad industry after 1936. See webpages Pennsylvania State Archives or Voluntary Relief Department for employee information or the enrollment cards of the Voluntary Relief Department which was an insurance program the PRR began in 1886. Not all PRR employees chose to participate in the Voluntary Relief Program. For additional information at the Pennsylvania State Archives on Railroad employees, see the Railroad Employees Page The Pennsylvania State Archives may not have all the enrollment cards and there are some research restrictions, but this source might be worth an inquiry. Temple University -The Urban Archives Temple Archives contain a variety of boxed records. It may be a hit or miss research option but again some PRR records do locate here. This last link PRR Research list other research libraries where you can pursue genealogical investigations. |
